He was initially appointed Deputy Minister of Communications, but became Deputy Minister of Transportation in November 1990.〔(Twelfth Knesset: Government 24 ) Knesset website〕 Towards the end of the Knesset term, Gur merged his faction into Likud on 17 May 1992.〔 Gur retained his seat in the 1992 elections on Likud's list, but broke away from his new party and saw out the remainder of his term as an independent.
